A Tummy Tuck, or Abdominoplasty, can help restore abdominal contours after childbirth or weight loss/weight gain. This procedure removes excess abdominal tissue of the lower abdomen, tightens abdominal muscles and is often performed with liposuction of the abdomen and love handles to help achieve an hourglass figure. A Tummy Tuck is a very popular procedure in Dallas, Texas, and it is one of the most common procedures performed by Dr. Joshua Cox.

What Is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

After childbirth, weight loss or weight gain, and with age, the abdomen becomes stretched out and loses its youthful form. So many women say that no matter what they do at the gym, the excess skin and fat in their lower abdomen simply won’t go away.

A Tummy Tuck, abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes this excess skin. Additionally, during the procedure, Dr. Cox will bring the abdominal muscles that were separated by pregnancy or weight gain, a condition called rectus diastasis, back together to help bring back your hourglass figure. These specialized suture techniques serve as an internal corset to help cinch in your waist and define your curves.

In most cases, liposuction of the abdomen and love handles is performed to accentuate your waist and maximize your results. This liposculpting technique, as well as internal sculpting sutures, helps define your abdomen—creating a sculpted, sexy look. Dr. Cox then resculpts your belly button through a new hole in the skin after the skin from the top of your abdomen is pulled down.

On some occasions, Dr. Cox can perform what is called a mini Tummy Tuck. This is reserved for women or men who have very limited excess skin and only require a small amount of skin removal and limited tightening of the abdominal muscles. Women who are typically the best candidates for mini Tummy Tuck have only a small pooch overlying their cesarean section scar.

Occasionally, Dr. Cox sees patients who have undergone significant weight loss, leaving them with the excess abdominal skin of the upper abdomen or around the belly button that cannot be removed with a traditional abdominoplasty. For these cases, we may recommend a corset abdominoplasty or fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty to remove the skin in both horizontal and vertical vectors.

Some women who have undergone significant weight loss or have a lot of laxity of their lower abdominal skin may also have a condition called mons ptosis, where the lower part of the abdomen above the genital region starts to sag down. When necessary, Dr. Cox re-suspends or pulls up the mons pubis area to correct this.

Why Get a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Dallas?

We hear similar stories from many of our patients who have had children or weight fluctuations that have left them with excess abdominal skin and fat that will not go away as much as they diet and exercise. They are embarrassed to wear bathing suits, fitted dresses, or clothing. The excess abdominal skin and fat have taken a toll on their self-confidence and energy level.

A Tummy Tuck can help you feel like yourself before children or weight gain, and get you back the confidence and waistline you once had. Tummy Tuck procedures can also remove many of those unwanted stretch marks in your lower abdomen.

Benefits of Undergoing a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Dallas

Dr. Cox takes pride in his abdominoplasty techniques and focuses on these specific goals to give you the best results he can. Care is taken to keep the incision or scar low and hidden in the underwear line. If you have muscle separation or rectus diastasis, your muscles will be brought together in the surgery to accentuate your waistline.

Your belly button will be contoured to give you a “cute” belly button that fits your new tummy. Focus on repositioning and reduction of the mons pubis area is performed if needed. If you are a candidate for liposuction and choose to have liposuction of the waistline and abdomen, this will be covered by the cost of your Tummy Tuck with no additional fees from the surgeon. In addition, any small touch-ups to scars or contours that can be performed in-office will also be covered free of charge.

Patients who have undergone massive weight loss have a special set of issues. Dr. Cox has experience with multiple techniques to specifically meet the needs of this patient population.

Dr. Cox employs a multimodal pain regimen to decrease your need for narcotic pain medication, which allows our patients to recover quickly and feel more like themselves soon after surgery. This includes a long-lasting injectable anesthetic called Exparel that is injected during the procedure.

Our Tummy Tuck patients can expect to return back to work after two or three weeks. Initially, Dr. Cox and our staff will see you or communicate with you daily to ensure proper healing. Most of the swelling begins to subside over the first few weeks, but swelling may persist for a few months after the procedure. We advise that you refrain from strenuous activity or heavy lifting greater than 10 pounds for six weeks during the healing process.

*Note: This only includes liposuction of the waist and flanks area. You may have additional charges for facility fees due to increased operative time.
